Verrier Elwin (1902-1964) was a British-Indian anthropologist and tribal activist, who went to India as a missionary before going on to work with Mohandas Gandhi and the Indian National Congress. He was a prolific writer on the topic of Indian tribal lifestyle and culture, in particular with regard to the Gondi people; he married a member of one of the communities he studied when she was thirteen.In an unclipped dust wrapper.Contains twelve illustrations, as well as a map on the pastedowns.
